How to Participate as a Writer

Become a Clarion Write-a-Thon Writer by following these four easy steps:

One -- Choose Your Clarion

Two -- Sign Up

To sign up, fill out the Clarion UCSD Write-a-Thon registration form and generate your participant page. You can sign up any time between now and June 26, 2011.

Three -- Find Sponsors. Earn Rewards.

Solicit your sponsors. Do as much or as little as you like. Here are a few handy tips:

• Contact friends, family and fans to let them know you're raising money for Clarion while nurturing your own writing life.


• Post frequent updates on your personal web site, your blog, your Facebook page, and Twitter.


• Use Facebook to invite your friends to participate. It's easy. Go to the Write-a-Thon Facebook page. Click on the "Select Guests to Invite" link below the Write-a-Thon badge. Select friends you think might be interested. Add a personal message, and click "Submit."


• Get a Write-a-Thon badge for your blog and/or web site. Just click here.


• Make sure all of your efforts link to your Write-a-Thon participant page. You'll receive the URL shortly after you fill out the registration form. We'll help you by posting your link on the Choose a Writer page. Your page comes complete with personalized web payment buttons!


• Need extra incentives or ideas?
  Take a look at our Write-a-Thon Rewards.
  Browse the pages of other writers. Victoria Griesdoorn's, for example. Wow!


• Consider participating as both a Writer and a Sponsor. Here's one situation in which mutual admiration societies are encouraged!

Four -- Write!

Set a goal that is realistic yet challenges and motivates you for the full six weeks. Write every day or an hour a week. Write one page or twenty. Revise a story, a novel, or just a chapter. Stretch those writing muscles. We'll be there rooting for you, with emailed pep talks and advice. This is Clarion. Aim for the stars!
